Barca captain Sergi Roberto is possibly spending his last few months in Blaugrana colors, or at least according to his current contract timeline.

Earlier in March 2023, the Spanish midfielder had renewed his contract terms with the club extending his stay for another year. Now Roberto's contract is set to run out in the coming summer by the end of the 2023-24 season.

Since making his first team debut for the first team in 2010, Sergi Roberto has played the entirety of his professional career with the Catalan giants. With over 300 appearances in Blaugrana colors, the current Barcelona captain could possibly see his journey in Catalonia end for good.

Although there have been very little discussions regarding an extension from either side, the chances that the midfielder will be offered a new contract remains justifiably scant.

Roberto hasn’t exactly been a starter in Xavi’s set up, and there remains little possibility that he will be anytime soon. Leaving the club by the end of the season as a free agent seems to be the most viable farewell Sergi Roberto's story will have in Blaugrana.

And yet, the What-ifs remain.

The Spanish international has been incredibly consistent for the Catalans in the last few consecutive games. Consistent, and – Clutch.

Clutch brings back a gush of raw adrenaline pumped memories from La Remontada to the silencing of a full Bernabeu in equally dying moments of the game.
But well for now, the statistics to throw weight behind Roberto's aren’t too bad, if not iconic. The midfielder scored three goals and provided one assist in the last three games with relatively little playtime on the pitch.

The possibilities of extending his stay in the Blaugrana camp can only be given thought if the player is willing to play down his financial terms grossly. That too, if the club shows any real interest.

As things stand for now, it appears that the Catalans will let Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso part ways with the club once their contracts run out by the end of the season.

Marcos Alonso's future is pretty clear and there is little left to the imagination as the club harbors no interest in extending his stay.

But Sergi Roberto, is perhaps, a different case. Or is it?

A couple of assists and a handful of goals might not be enough after all to convince the club to extend his stay, something, to many, he had long outlived. The axe has been swung in mutual consent and things need not get any nastier.

Perhaps the time has truly come to call it quits with the hero of La Remontada, and see him find his harbor elsewhere.

Perhaps, like all these years of routinely preparing to bid him goodbye, not just yet.
