Ronald Araújo called up for Uruguay’s World Cup squad

A crucial player in Barça’s backline, Ronald Araújo has been sidelined since September owing to an injury he suffered in the previous international break.

The Uruguay international had undergone a thigh surgery, and a trip to Qatar seemed doubtful for the 23-year-old. Recent medical reports, however, have declared Araújo as fit to represent ‘The Sky Blues’ in the highly-prestigious competition.

Uruguayan Football Association (UAF) Ignacio Alonso had told Uruguayan newspaper Ovación: “We had a major setback with Ronald Araújo, but he is overcoming it little by little”

“We are going to have the opportunity for him to be at the Uruguay training camp, evaluated by the doctors and the coaching staff, and God willing he could be in one of the matches.”

Barcelona and Uruguay fans have mixed reactions to Araújo’s controversial selection as they fear he’s putting his career at stake.
